龙岗区位于深圳市东北部，东邻坪山区，南连罗湖区、盐田区，西接龙华区，北靠惠州市、东莞市。处于珠江口东岸深莞惠城市圈几何中心。地形东北高、西南低，地势属低山丘陵滨海区，区内最高的山峰是位于大鹏半岛的七娘山，海拔867米。辖区总面积388.21平方公里，常住人口为 205.24万，其中户籍人口47.72万。龙岗是2010年深圳市经济特区扩大到全市范围之前，位于经济特区之外的两个的市辖区之一（另外一个为原宝安区）。龙岗区的辖区范围还包括今日的坪山区和大鹏新区。目前龙岗区内已建立数所大学，成为深圳市的教育新区。

龙岗区自然环境优越，地形东北高、西南低，地势属低山丘陵滨海区。依山傍海，海岸线长达133公里，沙滩、岛屿、礁石、海蚀崖、洞、桥、柱等海积海蚀地貌发育齐全，区内入选国家地质公园的大鹏半岛海滩。

龙岗区是深圳市东北部的交通枢纽，拥有便捷的交通运输网络。龙岗区公路通车里程722公里，路网密度达86公里/百平方公里。龙岗交通已形成“七横六纵”的干线路网格局，次干道以上的道路总里程达到532.1公里，机荷、深汕、惠盐、水官、盐排、博深高速公路穿境而过，广深、京九、平盐铁路以及厦深铁路在此汇集，华南地区最大的铁路编组站——平湖南铁路编组站以及客运枢纽站深圳东站、厦深铁路深圳新城站均在此布局。轨道3号线、5号线穿境而过，10号线已开工建设，与深圳机场、港口码头和香港各口岸均处于半小时交通圈内。区内拥有4个火车站：深圳东站、平湖站、坂田站、深圳坪山站

截至2018年底，龙岗区区属各类全日制学校189所，比上年增加6所。在校学生和专任教师分别为34.24万人和2.14万人，分别增长7.8%和8.4%。2018年全区高考上线人数（大专以上）为7224人，增长9.7%。幼儿园476间，在园儿童13.22万人，增长2.4%。该区著名学校有：香港中文大学（深圳校区）、深圳信息职业技术学院、深圳北理莫斯科大学。

龙岗有龙岗客家民俗博物馆和大芬村等景点。其中大芬村位于深圳龙岗区布吉，是一处著名的油画村。在1980年代尾，由一位香港画商黄江发起，村民原有200人，现在有1万多外来人口从事美术工作。作品以仿西洋油画闻名，也有原创。此地有称为大芬油画村。

Longgang

Longgang District is located in the northeast of Shenzhen City, adjacent to Pingshan District in the east, Luohu District and Yantian District in the south, Longhua District in the west, and Huizhou City and Dongguan City in the north. Located in the geometric center of the Shenhuanhui city circle on the east bank of the Pearl River, the terrain is a low hilly coastal area, high in the northeast and low in the southwest. The highest mountain in the area is the Qiniang Mountain in the Dapeng Peninsula, with an elevation of 867 m. The total area of the jurisdiction is 388.21 sq. km., and the resident population is 2.0512 million, of which registered population is 472,200. Longgang was one of the two municipal districts outside the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (the other one is the original Bao’an District) before the zone expanded to the whole city in 2010. The area of Longgang District also includes today's Pingshan District and Dapeng New District. At present, several universities have been established in Longgang District which has become a new education district in Shenzhen.

Longgang District has a superior natural environment as its terrain is high in the northeast and low in the southwest. The terrain is a low hilly coastal area with a 133 km. coastline and fully-developed beaches, islands, reefs, sea cliffs, caves, bridges and columns. The area is selected into the Dapeng Peninsula Beach of the National Geological Park.China.

Transportation Facilities

Longgang District is a transportation hub in the northeast of Shenzhen, with a convenient transportation network. The Longgang District Highway has a mileage of 722 km. and the road network density is 86 km./100 sq. km. It has formed a “seven-horizontal and six-vertical” truck road network. The total mileage of the roads above the secondary trunk road has reached 532.1 km. with Jihei, Shenshan, Huiyan, Shuiguan, Yanpai and Boshen Expressways passing through the district. The Guangzhou-Shenzhen, Beijing-Kowloon, Pingyan Railway and Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway are here. The largest railway marshalling station in South China, Pinghu South Railway Marshalling Station, and the passenger terminal, Shenzhen East Railway Station and Xiamen-Shenzhen Railway Shenzhen New Town Station are also located here. Tracks No. 3 and No. 5 also pass through the district, and Line 10 has started construction. It is within half an hour of traffic with Shenzhen Airport, Port Terminal and Hong Kong ports. There are 4 railway stations in the zone: Shenzhen East Railway Station, Pinghu Station, Putian Station, and Shenzhen Pingshan Station.

Educational Resources

By the end of 2018, Longgang District had 189 full-time schools, an increase of 6 over the previous year. The number of students and full-time teachers was 342,400 and 21,400, respectively, up 7.8% and 8.4%. In 2018, 7,224 students sat college entrance examinations, an increase of 9.7%. There were 476 kindergartens and 132,200 children in the district, an increase of 2.4%. The famous schools in the district are The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen Campus), Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology, and Shenzhen Beili Moscow University.

Tourist Attractions

Longgang’s tourist spots include Longgang Hakka Folk Museum and Dafen Village. Dafen Village is located in Buji, Longgang District, Shenzhen. It is a famous oil painting village. At the end of the 1980s, it was initiated by a Hong Kong painter, Huang Jiang. The village originally had 200 people, and now there are more than 10,000 migrants engaged in art work. The work is original, famous for its imitation of Western oil paintings. This area is named Dafen Oil Painting Village.
